Eventually, Venustiano Carranza rose to the presidency and arranged an important convention. Its outcome was the Constitution of 1917, which is still in effect today. It included the ideas of peasants and gathered social reforms never made by Díaz. Carranza made land reform an important part of that constitution, also. This resulted in the ejido, or farm cooperative program that allotted much of the country's land from the wealthy land holders to the peasants again. The ejidos are still in place today and make up nearly half of all the farmland in Mexico.
